Exams

Exams are a significant part of school life and we understand they can be a source of pressure for many students. At Nicholas Chamberlaine, we are committed to supporting every young person through this important stage, both academically and emotionally. Alongside high-quality teaching and targeted revision sessions, we offer a range of wellbeing support to help students manage stress and build confidence.

Strategies for Coping with Exam Burnout:

  • Take regular breaks during revision to avoid mental fatigue and allow your brain to recharge.
  • Physical activity can help reduce stress and boost mood by releasing endorphins.
  • Techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can help manage stress and improve focus.
  • Talk to friends, family, or a mental health professional if you’re feeling overwhelmed.
  • Make time for enjoyable activities, prioritise sleep, and maintain a balanced diet.
  • Break down your workload into manageable chunks and set realistic goals.
  • Acknowledge your accomplishments and celebrate small milestones to stay motivated.
  • Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to achieve perfection. Focus on doing your best.
  • Focus on preparing well, managing your time effectively, and practicing relaxation techniques.
  • Stay organised, prioritise rest and breaks, and avoid last-minute cramming.
  • Allow yourself a little time to decompress, reward yourself for your efforts, and plan for the future.

Additional Resources:

  • BBC Bitesize offers tips and resources for coping with exam stress.
  • YoungMinds provides information on exam stress and mental health.
  • Student Minds offers support and advice for students experiencing exam stress.

OFQUAL have published a guide for students with advice for coping with exam pressure. Please also remember that we have Place2Talk in school, where pupils book appointments with a Place2Be counsellor to talk about problems and worries, sometimes a chat is really helpful and can make things feel much more manageable.

Performance

Pupils/students included in this performance data will have experienced some disruption due to Covid-19 earlier in their schooling, which will have affected individual pupils and schools differently. The Government recommends School performance data should be considered alongside a range of other information about the school, which could include looking at school websites, reading Ofsted reports, and speaking to the school directly. Conclusions should not be drawn on a single piece of data alone.

To see full details of our exam results across KS4 and KS5 please visit Nicholas Chamberlaine School’s page on the government’s performance table website, accessible here.

For a summary of our KS4 and KS5 Results please see the documents below.

Ofsted

We wanted to share with families some of the positive progress that the Inspectors observed in our latest Ofsted visit:

  • Nicholas Chamberlaine School (NCS) staff and pupils share the same high aspirations.
  • Pupils understand and follow the ambition to be ‘Successful learners: World citizens’.
  • Relationships between pupils and staff are warm and respectful.
  • ‘School is a safe environment, with a great ethos combining care and achievement,’
  • There is a purposeful atmosphere around the school. Pupils feel safe. They know who to talk to about any concerns they may have.
  • NCS places a strong emphasis on pupils’ personal development. Pupils’ well-being is at the forefront of leaders’ vision, including promoting pupils’ positive mental health.
  • All pupils and sixth-form students receive unbiased information on potential next steps and high-quality careers guidance.
