So this is my penultimate post about my role as a volunteer at the Commonwealth Games - not least as this was my final shift. It was also the last cycling event and (you could argue) the most prestigious.![]()
Firstly, it was an early start! Up at 4.30am and on course by 6.30am. The course was a 16km (10 mile) loop of Warwick, with the women covering 7 laps and the men 10. My role was to ensure that the course was safe for the public and riders.![]()
Both races ended up as a sprint, largely because the highest point on the course was a motorway bridge! For the women, the race was won by Australia's Georgia Baker, with Aaron Gate of New Zealand winning gold in the men's race - his fourth gold medal of the Games.![]()
The pictures show my big TV moment (the yellow dot on the left), an not too happy Mark Cavendish (former World Champion and winner of 34 Tour de France stages). Finally, Geraint Thomas (former winner of the Tour de France and third this year), who launched a late attack to try and win for Wales.![]()
